The American Red Cross needed a shift in how it connects with younger, more diverse audiences. While recognised as a leader in disaster relief, the organisation faced challenges with trust and cultural relevance, particularly in communities historically underserved by its messaging. Our task was to reposition the Red Cross as a more fresher, contemporary, and community-embedded presence in the health space, using design and storytelling to highlight its role in addressing issues like sickle cell disease.

EVENT

The campaign culminated in a vibrant blood donation day. Part block party, part community drive, the event was complete with DJs, local vendors, and custom Red Cross merch. Aimed at making health advocacy feel less clinical and more culturally plugged-in, the work helped reframe blood donation as a shared, celebratory act of care.

GRAPHIC LANGUAGE

The identity used stretched and distorted typography to form a cross: a clear nod to the Red Cross symbol, reworked in a fresher way. It needed to feel recognisably Red Cross, but also belong to the block party atmosphere of the event. This approach kept the work grounded in something familiar while pushing it into a more contemporary, graphic space. The strict red, white and black palette was loyal to the iconic brand, while the warped type introduced tension and movement. The result felt bold, graphic and culturally in tune.
